OASIS, the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards that was formed in 1993 to oversee the development and adoption of standards for Internet business information exchange, has just completed the ratification of the Digital Signature Services (DSS) specification, version 1.0. DSS was originally proposed back in 2002 when the organization first formed a technical committee to develop XML-based protocols for digital signatures and cryptographic timestamping in Web services transactions. The core protocol involves digital
